Well, the preliminary Examination for the Civil Services 2023 has been concluded on 29 May 2023 at the examination centres in 71 cities in the Country by the UPSC. More than 5 Lakh candidates are reported to participate in the preliminary examination conducted by the UPSC. Known as the toughest exam in the country, UPSC Prelims lived up to the expectations and aspirants were seen gasping after the examination as UPSC asked some unexpected questions too. The UPSC Preliminary examination is conducted in two shifts as the candidates had to appear for two different papers. Paper 1 is named general studies while Paper 2 is named Civil Service Aptitude Test (CSAT). The commission conducted GS Paper 1 in the morning session while Paper 2 in the evening session.

Talking about the papers, aspirants looked more focused on both of the papers. If I talk about the preliminary examination, Paper 2 which is also known as an aptitude test for civil services (CSAT) is generally a qualifying examination. The candidates scoring the qualifying marks in the CSAT Paper will get their General Studies Paper checked which will be considered for the qualification of the Mains.
Candidates who are declared qualified in the preliminary examination will participate in the UPSC Mains exam which is scheduled to be conducted later this year.
- The examination is conducted in an offline mode based on OMR Sheets.
- Paper 1 of GS carried 100 Questions based on MCQ Pattern.
- Each correct answer will be awarded 2 marks on paper 1.
- Paper 2 of CSAT carried 80 Questions based on MCQ Pattern.
- Each correct answer will be awarded 2.5 marks on paper 2.
- There is a negative marking of 1/3 marks for each incorrect answer.
UPSC IAS Preliminary Exam Result Status and Process
The Results of the preliminary exam has been released once the Commission is done with the answer key process. Before announcing the results, the Commission will release the provisional answer key and invite candidates to submit their objections. The candidates participate in the objection representation and help the commission identify the incorrect answers the answer key might be carrying.
Once the process is completed, the commission prepares the final answer key based on revised answers. The answer sheets of the candidates are then evaluated according to the final answer key.
UPSC IAS Prelims Result 2022 has been declared at www.upsc.gov.in. The results have been released earlier as the commission is expected to conduct the main examination in December or January.
