The Directorate of Matriculation Schools, Tamil Nadu has started the online registration for admission to private schools under the Right to Education Act, 2009. Interested parents must note that the application process began on 20 April and will continue till May 18, 2022.

This year about 1 lakh seats are offered in around 9000 private schools in the state. All those parents who come under economically weaker sections and socially disadvantaged sections in all the community except OCs can apply under this scheme. The family’s annual income must not be more than 2 lakhs.

Objectives of TN RTE Admission

Tamil Nadu is one of the most literate states in India. The state’s literacy rate is 80.33% in 2011, which is above the national average The main objective of the RTE Act is to provide free and compulsory education to children. Under this scheme, students belonging to economically weaker sections and disadvantaged groups get free education till they attain the age of 14 years. The objective of this scheme is to increase the literacy rate of the state.

25% of total seats at the entry level are reserved in every private school under this scheme. All the schools of Tamil Nadu are required to provide information on the number of seats available in school on the official website.

TN RTE Admission – Eligibility Criteria

• To be eligible for the LKG class, a student must have been born between 01 August 2018 to 31 July 2019.
• The eligibility requirement for the 1^st standard mandates the student to be born between 01 August 2016 to 31 July 2017 while filling out the TN RTE Admission Form 2022-23.
• Income certificate for candidates belonging to weaker sections.
• The applicant’s residence must be under one kilometre in distance from the educational institution.
